It’ll actually fit any laptop with a rectangular footprint of 14.5” x 10.25” x 1.25” (37cm x 26cm x 3cm) or less. If you have a 15” laptop, this is measured by the diagonal dimension of the screen so the rectangular dimension of almost all 15” laptops fall within this range. Best to measure to double check though.

What's the volume and dimensions of the backpack?
Well, the interior space is a bit more complicated due to its organic shape, but the widest point at its base is 12” and it’s 17” tall so that gives you an idea of its proportions. The high point of the base is 5” thick and then it tapers down to 2” thick at the top.
So the bulk of the volume capacity is at the bottom of the large compartment and the rest of the size is driven towards organizing flatter things like computers, notebooks, and tablets. The front pocket is 10.5” wide at its base and 13” deep.

Is there any venting on the back to prevent sweat?
Yep! We’re working through some samples right now which incorporate a back venting pattern. The current designs have a channel down the middle of the pack where there is no added padding, allowing for additional airflow. If you look at the close-up image of the PivotStrap™ it has some of the material in the background. Details to come!

What’s the WSRS rating system™?
The rating system was created by ROC Gear to help consumers clarify and compare waterproof ratings between different manufacturers. Their rating system has quickly become an industry standard, although this project is in no way affiliated with ROC Gear. In their words:
“Since every manufacturer seems to have their own definition of what constitutes “waterproof”, we wanted to present you with a simple way to compare the level of water-tightness across products and manufacturers… These ratings in no way constitute a guarantee from us at ROC Gear, but rather they take the various manufacturer claims, and present them all together on one common sliding scale… class 1 being the least waterproof, and class 5 being the greatest. Our waterproof class rating definitions are as follows:
Class 1 – Water resistant for light rain or light splash applications. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following situations: prolonged water exposure, heavy top-down watering, forceful water pressure applications, or submersion.
Class 2 – Waterproof in top-down watering applications. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following applications: forceful water pressure, water injected from odd angles, or submersion.

What’s the static column water test?
This metric used to rate the effectiveness of rainwear is done by covering the end of a 1in diameter tube with the material, then filling the tube with water. The taller the column of water without it leaking through, the more waterproof the fabric is. Fabrics are said to be rain resistant at about 3000mm, meaning the column of water reaches that height. 4000mm is considered rainproof.
Soft Shell is rated at over 10,000mm (over 32 feet!) which is considered waterproof unless subjected to considerable pressure such as high power water jets or submersion.

Is it possible for things inside to get wet if I use the bag in the rain?
So far from my testing, it seems like it should stand up to any normal rain exposure, but that’s not to say I believe it’s impossible for the stuff inside to get wet given some conditions. After the material “wets out” it still provides protection though since it’s laminated with a rubber backing so the protection is quite impressive. However, at a certain point, heavy rain for a long enough duration can have almost the same effect as submerging the bag in water.

What’s the difference between weatherproof, waterproof, and water resistant?
Great question- and I think this has become confusing with some companies making items that are “water resistant” and then advertising them as “waterproof”. The way I regard this bag is that it is very highly water resistant, which I’m referring to as “weatherproof”. This hasn’t been confirmed by laboratory testing, but based on my testing so far, I estimate its rating to be towards the high end of “Waterproof Class 2” on the WSRS rating system™ and IP65 on the Ingress Protection Marking System which means it’ll keep stuff dry in almost any rain conditions… just short of protecting against brief submersion.

Which generations of Apple products does it fit?
It fits all generations of 15” MacBook Pro but the older 17” ones are a bit too tall. Do yourself a favor and get a Retina one anyway. It’ll shave some weight and you’ll love it because of the solid state memory!
